Global Challenges Local Solutions Fund is the first European fund that connects community foundations and Sustainable Development Goals on the local level. Within three editions of the grant competition we supported community foundations from across Europe and collected many good practices that can serve as an inspiration for the others. Now, there are new big plans ahead of the GCLS Program and you are already invited to become part of them!

About GCLS

Global Challenges Local Solutions Program was established in 2016 as a grantmaking program that supports community foundations throughout Europe to address global challenges on the local level. It was set to provide them with additional resources that can improve local initiatives. The Program focuses on initiatives referring directly to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It has already collected some good practices concerning projects involving SDGs implemented at the local level. In their activities, most often they focused on the following SDGs: 4, 11, 3 and 1. Every project engaged local communities and various partners such as: business sector, public administration, media and other non-profit organizations.

New chapter

In 2020 we launch the next stage of the Global Challenges Local Solutions Program. We plan to widen the formula of the grant competition by:

• Organizing international meetings for the grantees, so they can share their experiences and have a chance to shape the future of the Program;
• Implementing European campaign showing that SDG-related issues and projects are in every community, and teaching on how to tackle them, being inspired by the good practices from local communities across Europe;
• Organizing “Tell me your story” competition for the best stories describing projects implemented in the given round. Grantees will be asked to prepare some short multimedia materials presenting their projects. The best stories will be awarded with additional funds for the project or its continuation.
• Designing educational materials that will summarize every grant round.
